Winston Zou, an Associate at the firm, informs his work in intellectual property with his background in chemicals and pharmaceuticals, including previous work at a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company. Mr. Zou’s work focuses on patent law, and in particular, chemical patent prosecution. He graduated from the George Washington University Law School.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Zou worked at the Center for Drug Evaluation & Research at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). There, he gained knowledge in pharmaceutical regulatory law, participating in multiple research projects regarding exclusivity issues, and briefing working groups on suggested edits to proposed FDA rules. Mr. Zou has also performed legal research and drafted motions and briefs as a law clerk at multiple law firms.

Research and extensive study into the effects of AIA post-grant trials on the delicate Hatch-Waxman balance culminated in Mr. Zou’s publication “Fixing the Hatch-Waxman Imbalance: A Proposed Solution to the Problem Created by Inter Partes Review“ in the AIPLA Quarterly Journal. He also studied patent strategy, intellectual property licensing, and industrial regulation while in law school.

Before starting his legal career, Mr. Zou held an engineering position at a global pharmaceutical company. In this capacity, he monitored daily production, recommending alternatives to avoid bottlenecks and coordinating implementation of improvements. Mr. Zou also has research experience in carbon-capture technologies.
